A Welcoming and Supportive Homeschool Community in Niagara
Welcome to the website of the Niagara Home Educators Association, affectionately known as NHEA. Hopefully you will find it helpful in making some meaningful connections for your family.
NHEA is part of the greater homeschooling community of the Niagara Region, Ontario, Canada. Founded in 1978 with a handful of families, we have grown to over 100 families in the past few years. We are unapologetically a faith-in-Jesus-based group. While our membership comprises a variety of denominations and expressions of worship, we talk in grace toward each other always, focusing on what we have in common, rather than our differences. We walk in godliness as outlined in scripture to the best of our ability, including in how we conduct ourselves as leaders within the community. Families who do not consider themselves Christians are welcome to membership with the understanding that they acknowledge this is a faith-based group and will be mutually respectful of all its members.
Homeschooling has been a rewarding experience for generations. With many methods and approaches, Christian home-education has become a preferred alternative form of instruction. We at NHEA are here to support you and serve the home-educating community in the Niagara Region. All of the events held within the NHEA community are spearheaded by parents on a volunteer basis. Everyone is encouraged to both participate in and introduce new events or activities as time and interest allow. We are always looking for help with our annual community events. If you are looking for support in offering something new, contact us and we'll be happy to support you in this.
We send out a monthly email newsletter with announcements and encouragement.
We host regular parent support meetings at local churches/ homes.
We have fun Moms' Nights Out throughout the year.
We have a members-only Discord Server, closely monitored by our board full of events, announcements, and chats.
We host volunteer-led events throughout the school year, such as our kickoff "Not" Back to School Picnic, Harvest Party, Handmade Market, Christmas Celebration, Valentine's Event, Spring Showcase, and Commencement.
We promote and support parent-led initiatives. These are of a vast range of needs, interests, and types - classes, courses, co-ops, field trips, events, etc.
